LIFEP Network Update

LIFEP is the name given to a network of scientists and clinicians interested in the care of people with idiopathic focal epilepsies. In the last few years working groups have collaborated on a number of interesting topics through workshops and study visits. The outputs of the network include the patient information and resources on this website; a national survey of paediatric practice and opinion about RE (Mellish et al, 2015); the development of a novel iPad game to measure overnight learning in children (paper to be published soon); an international consortium to study the genetics of RE; investigation of sleep spindles and high frequency oscillations in the EEG. The proceedings of the 2012 London symposium have now been published in Epileptic Disorders. The work of LIFEP is now drawing to a close, with a project on semiology still ongoing in Genoa (Dr Pasquale Striano), and work on decision support tools and patient and clinician engagement subsumed under a new NIHR work programme that we hope to announce shortly.
