Teaching Conference on Genetic Epileptic Encephalopathies

Deb, Shan, Laura and Stephanie had the pleasure of spending a few days in this beautiful and very warm Italian city for the second Mariani Foundation workshop. We were treated to two and a half days of talks from world experts on every known type of genetic epilepsy, as well as a few we hadn’t heard of. The pain of 11 hours a day on our backsides was offset by multiple trips to the gelateria. We will of course use all our new insights for counselling families in the epilepsy genetics clinic back in London, and have entered discussions about research testing certain groups of patients who remained undiagnosed with current technology that we use at King’s. In the past few years, discoveries from such research has led directly to diagnostic testing, and so we are happy to offer this opportunity to our current patients.
